2010 Russian River Pinot Noir

This Appellation blend of Pinot Noir comes from the Suacci Vineyard and the Marshall Ranch Vineyard. After we select the barrels for the Single Vineyard bottling, we are left with a few barrels that did not make the cut. These are great barrels-they just didn’t fit in the final blend. What is left is a great value to the customer, and a price-friendly way to get familiar with the Suacci Carciere wines. This wine is softer than our single vineyard bottling, and is best suited for near term drinking. On the nose there are hints of black cherries, orange peel and dried herbs. The palate has flavors of wet earth and forest floor. It is a great stand-alone wine, but also goes great with all pinot friendly dishes.

Vintage Notes

2010 was probably the longest and coolest growing season in many years. It seemed like an eternity waiting for flowering and fruit set to finish. Flowering took over a month in some of our vineyards, which is about twice as long as normal. As summer started to wind down, we were waiting for veraison to finish, and it finally did in late August. It too, was a long process. What we were rewarded with was complex fruit that was balanced in flavor at low brix.
